More Off Topic Ranting and Raving...
I’d like to share a few quotes with you from President Barack Obama and see if what the man has said is reflective of what his actions are.
The ol’ walk the talk test.
Couple of Obama quotes...
"I think folks are sacrificing left and right. I think that, across the board, people are making adjustments large and small to accommodate the fact that we're in very difficult times right now."
“All of you are committed to building a more responsible, more accountable government. And part of what that means is making sure that we're spending precious tax dollars wisely and cutting costs wherever possible. During this period of economic emergency, families are tightening their belts, and so should Washington.”
Well that sounds like the man understands what the everyday average “Mr. and Mrs. American Citizen” is going through right now doesn’t it and he believes our Government should be doing the same thing…. making sure that our “precious tax dollars” are being spent “wisely and cutting costs wherever possible.”
But is he walking his talk? No…not by a long shot. We all know that between the bail outs, TARP, the Omnibus and budget spending were are now so far in debt its mind blowing. We all know that the current administration and his Democratic congress has put us in a hole so deep that its hard to see the light.
We all know this... but its Mr Obama's insensitive and arrogant perosnal use of his office that gets me.. his "do as I say not as I do" attitude
Remember his jaunt off to Chicago on Air Force One on Valentines Day? He decided he wanted to do something special for his First Lady. He decided he would fly her and the kids and his mother-in-law to Chicago for a Valentine's Day dinner .… on you and me to the tune of about $310,000. Drop in the bucket you say? It doesn’t take long for a lot of drops to fill up a bucket. But more to the point… did that trip fit the philosophy of making sure that our “precious tax dollars” are being spent “wisely and cutting costs wherever possible.”?
It is clear to me that his words were just that…words… just saying the right things to get elected.
Here are a few more quotes…
“It's time to fundamentally change the way that we do business in Washington. To help build a new foundation for the 21st century, we need to reform our government so that it is more efficient, more transparent, and more creative. That will demand new thinking and a new sense of responsibility for every dollar that is spent.”
In February, Obama scolded corporate executives when he said: "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas, or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime." Those comments, by the way, resulted in Nevada dropping about $130 million in lost business.
I guess Mr. Obama thinks that he is exempt as POTUS when it comes to wasteful spending of the taxpayers' dime.
Last May 30th, our president decided he would take his wife to New York for a “date night”. Between the costs of flying three choppers (two decoys) from the White House to Andrews in DC, a Gulfstream 500 which served as Air Force One for the first couple, two additional planes for staff and press, and more choppers in New York, A C-17 which had to fly to NYC to put in place a full motorcade (at least a dozen vehicles, maybe more), all the NYPD who had to be stationed all along the way, shutting down roads and such, the Secret Service, who were probably up there for the whole week before this romantic escapade to ensure maximum security, who had to scope out the whole thing and then station agents all over — sharpshooters, undercover agents… well after all that it is estimated that the cost to the taxpayer was close to $1 million.
The president did pick up the cost of dinner and theatre tickets though….a couple hundred bucks. Only fair right?
So, does that nice little million dollar night out on you and me match up with making sure that our “precious tax dollars” are being spent “wisely and cutting costs wherever possible? Does that portray a “new sense of responsibility for every dollar that is spent.”?
Another quote…
“I have worked to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how their tax dollars are spent.”
When asked by reporters how much the trip cost the taxpayers the White House spokesman Robert Gibbs refused to give up the number and instead said that the Obama’s would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel.
I guess maybe because they had already bought their theatre seats and made dinner reservations the first couple decided they didn’t want to waste their couple hundred dollars so they went ahead with their plans.
When asked a follow up question by the reporter who asked if there was a precedent for presidents traveling on the taxpayers’ dime for purely recreational reasons Gibbs replied “You’ve got, probably, more researches than I do.”
Barack Obama promised to run the most transparent White House in history and John Podesta, who was the point man for then President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, went so far as to say that Obama's administration would be "the most open and transparent transition in history."
Hah!
Another quote from Mr. Obama.
“Insist that the first question each of us asks, isn’t ‘what’s good for me’ but ‘what’s good for the country my children will inherit”
I'm sure you and the First Lady had a wonderful evening, one that the rest of us can only dream about. I am sure that date was good for you Mr. President but did you ask yourself that question? Did you ask yourself if going to New York for the evening was good for our country? Apparently it slipped your mind. Tell me how your date was good for our country and my kids?
Another quote.
“This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many.”
How many people did that sweet little million dollar trip favor Mr. President? To me it favored only a few…two to be exact. Were up to about 15 million Americans without a job now and with the loss of all the GM jobs soon it will be more so you better hurry up and get a few more trips in before the well completely dries up.
Oh wait, that’s right, you can just print more money when ever you want.
The house I own, Mr. President, the one you are living in right now has a great back yard. Maybe next time you and the Mrs. could just hang out back and BBQ up some nice steaks, have a few beers and have a nice private romantic evening together instead of doing the million dollar celebrity extravaganza.
I would be very happy for you to have a night like that on my dime.
