Hearing Tomorrow on Carcieri v. Salazar

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.

The hearing will take place at 2:15pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

South Dakota attorney general Larry Long, who serves as chairman of the Conference of Western Attorneys General and has a history of challenging land into trust for tribes and tribal sovereignty will be among those testifying. Long has signed onto a number of briefs opposing tribal rights in several Supreme Court cases, including Carcieri.

Also testifying will be Ed Lazarus, of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, and Ron Allen, the secretary of the National Congress of American Indians and the chairman of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe of Washington.
