Sycuan – Tweaks Class II Machines

Sycuan has tweaked their Class II machines to ensure that they are in line with Class II definitions that differentiate them from Class III Nevada style slots. The move was to eliminate any concern that they may have violated their compact with the state.

Investigators with the California Gambling Control Commission visited Sycuan last June and said that more-than 200 Class II machines which play like bingo were set up to look like Class III games.

The difference between Class II and Class III is that players playing Class II games are actually playing against other players, like in bingo, where Class III players are playing against the Casino.

The tweak, which seems so trite to me and more symbolic than anything, was that the Sycuan had the Class II machine software changed so players had to press a button twice to operate the machines, once to play and then again to claim the prize. Big difference huh?

The California Gambling Control Commission said that they are satisfied now.

The lawyer for the Tribe said that said the change was not an admission by the casino that the machines were in violation but that is was just an “appropriate thing to do” and that it is the game being played that determines what are Class II or Class III and not the equipment it is being played on.
